Jacket Required: Why Great Book Covers Can Make or Break Your Book

A favorite client of ours (@TraPublishing) was thrilled to learn that they just won the prestigious 2020 AGIA 50 Books 50 Covers Award for the book and cover design of LAIR: Radical Homes and Hideouts of Movie Villains. The cover was designed by Yonel Hernández with Architectural Illustrations and Renderings by Carlos Fueyo, of Playard Studios

The ABPR team worked long and hard on the PR for this book (with much success!) and we were so proud of the book’s luxe, black and silver design as we presented it to the media. We’re not at all surprised Lair won this honor.  They put so much thought (and blood, sweat and tears) behind the design of this beautiful book and cover.

At ABPR, we’re obsessed with beautiful cover design. And like consumers, we have found that a great cover is often what leads the media to actually take a look at your book.  A book cover creates the first impression on its potential readers. So, a book cover design is one of the most important aspects of marketing your book. Imagine how many books a magazine editor or reviewer receives a day. A lot. So if the cover is unappealing, you can risk losing media coverage and sales.

We encourage all of our authors to consider a professional book cover designer. There are so many amazing illustrators and designers out there who do extraordinary work.  We’re always happy to recommend some to you.

Now, on to a selection of our personal favorites –including a few books we have had the pleasure to promote. We’d love you to share your favorites too.  We also recommend taking a look at @bookcovers.design on Instagram. It’s great eye candy and terrific inspiration.
